Tea with the Prime Minister

The Right Honourable Helen Clark visited for dinner last night. She talked about how she got into politics, what she has achieved as PM and what she is working on at the moment.

She bemoaned how in we don’t celebrate high school graduation like they do in the US. Somehow this linked into 25% of students leaving school without NCEA Level One, which Labour is solving with apprenticeship schemes and the controversial compulsory education until age 18 policy. Hardly relevant to tertiary students.

The two questions asked were on human rights and foreign aid. Students are still hippies.

9 years is a long time to be in power. When I was 10 I Interviewed her for a school project. How times have changed. The project is still online here. It was my very first website, carefully crafted in MS Word.

I remember there was one other kid in the class who presented his project as a website. He thought his was better than mine because his back links worked just like the ones in the browser whereas mine followed the site map hierachy. At the the time I didn’t realise how pointless it is to replicate browser navigation functions inside a website. Crazy.
