How not to launch a web service

This weeks edition of Critic magazine featured a full page advertisement for The Racket on the rear cover. That’s prime advertising space seen by almost 20,000 students.

The Racket is apparently a personalised internet radio service, the likes of which have been rare on the internet lately due to licencing issues. I still sorely miss Pandora.

As stated in the advertisement:
“The power to create your own personalised online radio station is now available for as little as 57 cents a day. Your station, your playlist, streaming 24/7 wherever you are. Be your own DJ in The Racket world of music: share, chat and interact. Whatever you do just make a Racket!”

The problem is, the website is not online at www.theracket.co.nz as advertised. It wasn’t online when Critic hit the stands on Monday and it still hasn’t made an appearance. Maybe the site went up briefly then crashed, maybe it never launched at all. It’s disappointing.

The holding page has now been updated promising a launch tomorrow. As it turns out this isn’t the first time The Racket has lagged behind schedule.

Looks like they’ve wasted a fair bit of cash advertising a non-existent product.
