Award presentations
Yesterday I recieved my Gold Duke of Edinburgh and Queens Scout awards at a ceremony at Government House (Wellington). I had this to say on the matter:
“I have really enjoyed working towards my Queen Scout and Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards over the last 2 years. Highlights were learning to fly at the Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School and leading the Ngaio Venturer Unit. I have a passion for learning and these awards motivated me to step outside the box in terms of what I learned as well as providing valuable life experience.
Getting a degree is no longer a guarantee of success in life and I think these awards are a great way to show prospective employers that your skill set goes beyond knowing the periodic table. For me though, it’s not the certificates that matter so much as the people I met and the experiences I had along the way.”
