I can haz teh interwebs on holiday
I’ve spent the last week lounging around in Golden Bay. When I wasn’t at the beach or tramping in the rain I was on the internet thanks to the combination of an Eee PC and a Telecom T-stick.
I was interested to see how Vodfone compared to Telecom on the mobile internet coverage front. In Nelson and even Kaiteriteri the T-stick reached full broadband speeds (for the 3G network) as did my Vodafone phone. In Takaka my phone had very patchy reception, often none at all, but the T-stick managed a consistent 114kbps down (twice as fast as dial-up).
So on this trip Vodafone lost to Telecom in the coverage battle but I will continue to investigate further north.
